What is Malt?

Malt is an essential ingredient in your beer making ingredients. Malt is brewers name for barley that has undergone a process called malting.

Beer is brewed from malted barley. Malt comes from germinated cereal grains like Barley which is the preferred grain for many beer makers.

The starch in barley isn’t ready to be fermented into alcohol straight away so needs to be converted into malted barley, or malt.

Converting Barley to malted barley means it has to go through a  process known as “malting” where the grains soaking in water to germinate but halted before it germinates further by drying in hot air.

Malt is the reason that beer is a lovely shade of gold and it contains carbohydrates and gluten.
