How to Brew Beer using the Brew in a Bag (BIAB) which is the next stage on from kits and a grain style brewing method. This follows the same brewing techniques that large-scale breweries use but on a miniature scale. It will give you the option to produce something similar to your favourite craft beer commercial brew or tailor something to your personal preferences.

Process for Home Brewing with Brew in a Bag

  1. Sterilize all equipment.
  2. Treat the water you are going to use for your home brewing to remove any chlorine and excessive hardness. Always think about matching the water to the beer style you are brewing. Bring water to 72°C in a boiler
  3. Mix the grain into the hot water in a grain bag which you have suspended in the boiler. Then leave for about 60-90 minutes at approx 65°C This will convert the stored carbohydrates into usable sugars. This is known as the Mashing process.
  4. Remove the bag full of grain from the boiler and the remaining Liquid, this is called Wort, it is then brought to the boil.
  5. Now add the Hops and boil for around 60-90 minutes to extract the bitterness from the hops.
  6. Rapidly cool the liquid and run off into your fermentation vessel. This is now ready to add the yeast.
  7. Then it goes through the traditional brewing method of Fermentation, clearing, storage and conditioning.
