Fermentation process which turns your sugary liquid into alcoholic beer. Yeast converts any fermentable sugar in your wort to alcohol and releases carbon dioxide through the action of yeast.
Wort
Wort is the liquid extracted from the mashing process during the brewing process. Wort contains your malt extract sugars that will be fermented by the brewing yeast to produce alcohol.
It is pronounced ”wert”, and is the proper term for unfermented beer.
Carbonation
Sparkle caused by carbon dioxide, either created during fermentation or injected later.
Barley
Primary cereal which is malted used as the source of carbohydrates. Barley is generally converted into malted barley, or “malt.”
Malt
Beer is brewed from malted barley. Malt comes from germinated cereal grains like Barley going through a process known as “malting”
Malting
Converting Barley to malted barley means it has to go through a process known as “malting” where the grains soaking in water to germinate and then dried in heat before it germinates.
Maltose
Fermentable sugar contained in malt.
Mash
Release malt sugars by soaking the grains in water.
Microbrewery
Small brewery producing craft beers.
