Home Brewing – Beer Varieties

Home brewing beer varieties and styles of which there are hundreds from all over the World. The development of different flavors over the ages has made the choices huge and so varied.

IPA – India Pale Ale

India pale ale is a stronger and more bitter hoppy beer

Lager

Lagers are a relatively modern creation.  An effervescent beer which is light, pale, golden, amber in colour and light in body. It uses a process of cool fermentation, followed by maturation in cold storage.

Bitter

British style of pale ale strongly flavoured with hops and has a bitter, sour, or bittersweet flavor and made using a top fermentation

American Pale Ale

Typically defined by a balance between pale malts and hop presence but not the hop intensity or alcohol strength of an IPA

Stout

Stout is a dark beer made using roasted malt or roasted barley with gives it a distinctive roasted flavor.

Porter

Porter is a dark, almost black, fruity-full flavoured beer, well-hopped made from brown malt using top fermenting style.

Brown Ale

The brown ale has less dark malt character than a porter or stout above.
